Location

  • Serengeti National Park is located in northern Tanzania, covering an area of approximately 14,750 square kilometers (5,700 square miles). It extends to the border with Kenya, where it merges with the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

  • The Serengeti is renowned for its vast grasslands, savannah plains, rocky outcrops (kopjes), and acacia woodlands. The park is intersected by rivers and seasonal streams, including the Seronera River and Grumeti River, which provide vital water sources for wildlife. The Serengeti's ecosystem supports a diverse array of wildlife, including the famous Big Five (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros), as well as numerous other species such as giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, cheetahs, hyenas, and more.
