Tarangire National Park

Location

Tarangire National Park is situated in the Manyara Region of northern Tanzania, approximately 120 kilometers southwest of Arusha. The park covers an area of approximately 2,850 square kilometers (1,100 square miles), making it the sixth-largest national park in Tanzania.

Landscape and Ecosystem

Tarangire is characterized by diverse landscapes, including open grasslands, acacia woodlands, riverine vegetation, and ancient baobab trees. The Tarangire River flows through the park, providing a vital water source that attracts an abundance of wildlife, particularly during the dry season (June to October). The park can be accessed by road from Arusha, which is the nearest major city and serves as a gateway to many northern Tanzania safari destinations. Tarangire also has a small airstrip, allowing for easy access by air from Arusha and other nearby airports.
