Stone Town

Location

Despite its less than enchanting name, the old town of Stone Town (recently listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site) remains the cultural and historical center of Zanzibar. Its narrow and windy streets, its lively bazaars and its numerous mosques welcome rich Arab owners competing in extravagance for their noble residences. This escalation of opulence is particularly reflected in the magnificent carved wooden doors studded with copper (there are more than 500 examples in the city). You can spend hours, even days, strolling through the heart of this fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets.
